Hello Social is Australia’s first social media agency and have been partners of CeBIT Australia for three years, helping to create some very memorable social media displays. For the 2017 conference they’ve got something special planned, but aren’t giving too much away. In the meantime, we had a chat with their Managing Director Max Doyle, about his experiences in the tech space.
How did you get to your current role?
Max: I worked in another digital agency and thought I could do things a bit differently. So I naively quit and started my own.
What do you love most about working in technology?
Max: I like how creative you can be (if/when your clients allow you to).
What is the most challenging part of working in this sector?
Max: I would say disseminating the actionable information from the non-actionable information. For example, you hear about that amazing new bit of tech and the marketing community is hailing it as game-changer, it can be tricky to assess whether it’s actually going to make an impact or just be another bit of hype.
Name a book, podcast or presentation that has had an impact on your worldview. How has it changed your perspective?
Max: I’ve actually been really enjoying the inbound marketing courses offered by HubSpot. It’s very self-contained and flows together really well.
What is the technology that will transform the world in the next 10 years?
Max: I think it’s going to be Augmented Reality (AR), but it’s still a long way away. From a business perspective, especially in sectors like manufacturing, I think it’s going to have a very positive impact.
What’s the most valuable advice you’ve been given?
Max: My friend’s father said to me,‘95% of things that you worry about never come to pass’ and he has been proved right.
Lastly, do you use an iPhone, Android or… other?
Max: I am an iPhone user and and an apple fanboy but I’m not a fan of the new IOS! However, for me to actually make the switch [to android], it’s going to take a lot more than that.
